Good morning, good afternoon, good evening and good night.
I'm sick of starting blog entries as "Man, it's been a while - sorry to all 2 of my readers AND myself" but I have to shame myself by admitting that it's been several years since I sent anything out into the blogosphere, about which I feel like poo. There, I said it so let's just accept it and move on. New blog, new start... new bullshit to whinge about! *wink* Though I'll try to keep the noise on that last bit minimal. LUCKILY, with my immediate future plans I shouldn't have a whole lot to complain about because everything is kind of fan-freaking-tastic.
First, let me just explain what this blog is going to be about. On August 9th I'm flying half way around the world to check out life where the toilets flush in the opposite direction, where the money is plastic, happiness and koalas (aw, koalas!) are in abundance... AUSTRALIA. I decided after years of thinking about and wanting to try their Work and Holiday visa that I'd actually just fucking do it already. I mean, life is short. Do what you want. My decision was based on that notion, it's that simple. Luckily, even at the ripe old age of 27 (quarter-life crises insecurities about to unleash themselves...watch out) I'm still unattached to another human being, career, family... etc. so the time is now, my friends. Ah, that wasn't so bad.
But let's back up for just a sec. Technically, I was tied down a little bit until recently. I'll try and break down the last year for you in one, probably run-on sentence: I was in a relationship with a really nice guy but discovered I lacked the desire to spend the rest of my life with him, and at work I had backed myself into a corner after being there for over two years and never felt myself grow with them (and never got promoted) so I ended the relationship - rather sloppily - and quit my job to free myself up. That's probably all you need to know at this point. Anything else pertinent that took place in the last few years worth mentioning will probably come up in future blog posts.
And now I've got an Australian visa, good for up to 12 months from the time I enter Australia, and while I intend to keep this blog as personal as my last one, I also want it to end up being a guide for anyone else hoping to make moves and try out life on the other side of our pretty little planet. I am hoping the personal spin I put on my blogs will set it apart from other "Work and Holiday Guide" blogs out there (though I have found them immensely helpful, and I'm so grateful the girls who wrote them did - links to them soon) and anyone, IF anyone, who ends up reading will find this both entertaining and helpful.
And that's all I can really give you for now - because I'm still at work, still making $$ for a little while, and I should probably get back to, you know, working. OR MAYBE I should take one of my old quizzes from TEMPorary Insanity and re-answer to see where I'm at now...Yup. That's happening.
Oh wait wait wait. Big important piece of information. I'm drawn to Australia for more than just their delicious food, beautiful weather and beaches, and super happy people (and koalas!): there's one person, who I'll simply refer to as 'D' when necessary, in particular, who - funnily, er, oddly? enough - I connected with thanks to my old blog. After 6 years of getting to know each other, caring for each other and becoming best friends to each other... We decided it was time to see if there might be something beyond that for us. If you called us crazy... well, you'd be right, but... I guess you'll just have to read on to understand.
I dedicate this blog to you, my dear Aussie.
*cheers*
