Let's Get Quizzical

I'm quitting smoking due to a recent ruling by the doc that I should because I have asthma. So to take my mind off it, how bout some terrible questions with only slightly better answers?
Yay!

I know it's a little unorthodox, but let's start with the good shit first. Here are 5 Questions that were asked of me back on my old blog in 2007. Time for an update on the answers.

1. If a place like Lacuna Inc. in External Sunshine actually existed and could erase bad memories, and you got a voucher in the mail for a free bad memory wipe, what would you etch-a-sketch shake away?

While I think this is a good question, because it forces you to dig really deep into your past to find something truly awful and painful enough to want to erase, what I came away from Eternal Sunshine with was the notion that every moment, every event no matter how big or small, happened in force to shape us each as the people we've become. Hopefully you are happy with the person you've become, and I'm pretty darn happy being me so I wouldn't want to erase any of it. If I did, it could change my entire being after the fact (did we learn NOTHING from Back to the Future?!). The memories sting, but they help keep me in check in the seldom (and solemn) moments when I do think of them. They remind me of a few things, of where I came from and what I've been through and what I've learned along the way. There are some things I've seen happen to other people that I wish I could wash away, but again they're all learning experiences, aren't they? So, I wouldn't erase anything. I'd stick to being the person I am, and keep the people (and memories of them) I've got.

2. Last meal on death row before they make you a literal electrogirl... what do you have?

When I last answered this I opted to give you a 4 course feast. I think it's only fair to do the same - and it's what I would hope for were it really my last meal!

Appetizer: Pomme Frites french fries with ALL dipping sauces. Man I have to grab some of them before I leave town...

Pre-Main Course: A shack burger from Shake Shake, with cheese (obviously - why do they even ask?)

Main Course: Crab stuffed lobster tail, claws on the side, garlic and butter drenched mashed potatoes and heaps of grilled asparagus drizzled with olive oil

Dessert: a tower of soft, gooey, chewy chocolate chip cookies and banana ice cream on the side (Ben and Jerry's Chunky Monkey)

3. What are the last CD and DVD you bought?

Last CD: I haven't bought a CD in a while, what with all the digital music, honestly I think the last one I picked up was in a thrift store nearly two years ago (Gerling- Bad Blood!!!)- but to make up for it I've bought vinyl, which is far more precious to me anyway. Of course it was Random Access Memories - Daft Punk

Last DVD: IT WASN'T FOR ME IT WAS FOR MY SISTER. It was the last installment of Twilight. There's nothing more I can say here so I'm just not going to - EXCEPT I never buy DVDs because who does that anymore anyway? I seriously did it for the kid! Ugh, whatever.

4. Do you get along well with your family, or is there too much bad history?

I get along with most of them now. They're my family, I didn't pick them but they're mine and they're all right most of the time (it helps that I'm not around them most of the time, I'm sure). I understand that I can't change them, so I'm just accepting them. When strange things happen that I can't explain as the fairly sane, level headed person that I am, I try to shake it off and stop wishing they were different. They are who they are, I am who I am - and they're kind of lucky that I'm not more like them. My sister is awesome. My mom is a nut, but she means so well and tries so hard. She's come a long way. Can't be mad at that.

5. IF YOU COULD BE A TREE, WHAT KIND OF TREE WOULD YOU BE?

I still stand by my original answer: "I'M A FUCKING SHRUB, OKAY?"

Simmer Down and Pucker Up

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening and good night.

I'm sick of starting blog entries as "Man, it's been a while - sorry to all 2 of my readers AND myself" but I have to shame myself by admitting that it's been several years since I sent anything out into the blogosphere, about which I feel like poo. There, I said it so let's just accept it and move on. New blog, new start... new bullshit to whinge about! *wink* Though I'll try to keep the noise on that last bit minimal. LUCKILY, with my immediate future plans I shouldn't have a whole lot to complain about because everything is kind of fan-freaking-tastic.

First, let me just explain what this blog is going to be about. On August 9th I'm flying half way around the world to check out life where the toilets flush in the opposite direction, where the money is plastic, happiness and koalas (aw, koalas!) are in abundance... AUSTRALIA. I decided after years of thinking about and wanting to try their Work and Holiday visa that I'd actually just fucking do it already. I mean, life is short. Do what you want. My decision was based on that notion, it's that simple. Luckily, even at the ripe old age of 27 (quarter-life crises insecurities about to unleash themselves...watch out) I'm still unattached to another human being, career, family... etc. so the time is now, my friends. Ah, that wasn't so bad.

But let's back up for just a sec. Technically, I was tied down a little bit until recently. I'll try and break down the last year for you in one, probably run-on sentence: I was in a relationship with a really nice guy but discovered I lacked the desire to spend the rest of my life with him, and at work I had backed myself into a corner after being there for over two years and never felt myself grow with them (and never got promoted) so I ended the relationship - rather sloppily - and quit my job to free myself up. That's probably all you need to know at this point. Anything else pertinent that took place in the last few years worth mentioning will probably come up in future blog posts.

And now I've got an Australian visa, good for up to 12 months from the time I enter Australia, and while I intend to keep this blog as personal as my last one, I also want it to end up being a guide for anyone else hoping to make moves and try out life on the other side of our pretty little planet. I am hoping the personal spin I put on my blogs will set it apart from other "Work and Holiday Guide" blogs out there (though I have found them immensely helpful, and I'm so grateful the girls who wrote them did - links to them soon) and anyone, IF anyone, who ends up reading will find this both entertaining and helpful.

And that's all I can really give you for now - because I'm still at work, still making $$ for a little while, and I should probably get back to, you know, working. OR MAYBE I should take one of my old quizzes from TEMPorary Insanity and re-answer to see where I'm at now...Yup. That's happening.

Oh wait wait wait. Big important piece of information. I'm drawn to Australia for more than just their delicious food, beautiful weather and beaches, and super happy people (and koalas!): there's one person, who I'll simply refer to as 'D' when necessary, in particular, who - funnily, er, oddly? enough - I connected with thanks to my old blog. After 6 years of getting to know each other, caring for each other and becoming best friends to each other... We decided it was time to see if there might be something beyond that for us. If you called us crazy... well, you'd be right, but... I guess you'll just have to read on to understand.

I dedicate this blog to you, my dear Aussie.
*cheers*
